I thought that I might start sharing some of my favorite places and spaces with you all. First up, I am a sucker for a market, any kind will do, but my ultimate weakness is a farmers market. Whenever me and the Mr. travel I’m always on the lookout for a new one to visit.
We have the most amazing markets here in Portland. It’s something I really look forward to on a beautiful Saturday morning. Right now the stalls are exploding with the bounty of the summer. I have to exercise restraint so that I don’t come home with more than we can handle. I never pictured myself as one of those people that would be in the kitchen canning and pickling to preserve the harvest of the season. But now the thought of buying fresh tomatoes in December is downright unappealing. We are so fortunate in the Willamette Valley to have access to all this beautiful locally produced food. I love to wander around and discover the stories of the vendors, each one takes so much pride in what they are producing.
Now that summer is coming to an end I know that things will slow down and it will be a while before I see a melon or a tomato fresh from the ground. But I look forward to Fall and all that comes with a new season. Apples and pears, squash and kale, pumpkins and beets; these are foods that will take me through the season and remind me to savor every moment that they are here, until next year that is.
